Batman: Arkham Origins

Game Introduction

Batman: Arkham Origins is an action-adventure game developed by WB Games Montréal and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2013. Serving as a prequel to the Arkham series created by Rocksteady Studios, the game's story takes place on a Christmas Eve prior to the events of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

In the game, players assume the role of a younger, less experienced Batman, navigating the most pivotal night on his path to becoming Gotham City's Dark Knight. The story revolves around a mysterious bounty—a shadowy crime lord has placed a $50 million contract on Batman's head within Gotham's underworld. This event draws eight of the world's deadliest assassins to Gotham, all vowing to claim Batman's life by Christmas morning.

Players will guide the young Batman as he traverses the sprawling city throughout the long night, tracking down and confronting numerous classic villains including The Joker, Deathstroke, Bane, and inmates from Blackgate Prison. The game also introduces an online multiplayer mode for the first time in the series, offering players a new way to experience cooperative and competitive gameplay with friends.

Game Features

Freeflow Combat 2.0 System

The game continues and evolves the series' signature Freeflow combat system, allowing players to fluidly move between enemies, counter attacks, and build combos. The younger Batman's movements are more agile and acrobatic, featuring new combat animations and combo sequences. Enemy AI has been significantly enhanced, with foes now coordinating attacks more aggressively, flanking the player, and utilizing new equipment such as electric weapons.

Detective Mode Mastery

As a prequel, the game emphasizes Batman's identity as the "World's Greatest Detective." The enhanced Detective Mode allows players to utilize advanced forensic analysis to reconstruct crime scenes, track targets, and analyze evidence. Players must scan environments, trace heat signatures, and crack codes to gradually unravel mysteries.

Open-World Gotham City

The game features a larger open-world Gotham City than its predecessors, encompassing iconic locations such as Blackgate Prison, the Gotham City Police Department, and Gotham Cathedral. Players can freely explore this dark, sprawling metropolis, gliding and grappling between skyscrapers, and discovering hidden side missions and collectibles.

Extensive Side Content

Beyond the main storyline, the game offers a wealth of side missions and challenges. Players can hunt down escaped super-criminals, quell riots at Blackgate Prison, and investigate serial killer cases plaguing Gotham. The map is scattered with over 200 collectibles, including Riddler trophies, data logs, and criminal profiles.

Online Multiplayer Mode

This installment marks the series' debut of an online multiplayer mode. Players can form three-person squads—Batman paired with two Robins or Catwoman—and engage in intense battles against enemies within Gotham's underworld. This mode delivers a fresh gameplay experience for the franchise.

Gameplay

Main Missions

Players will follow the main storyline, completing a series of critical missions within the few hours of Christmas Eve. Starting with the pursuit of Deathstroke, players will gradually uncover the truth behind the bounty, ultimately confronting the mastermind orchestrating the events. The narrative employs a non-linear structure, allowing players freedom in the order they tackle missions.

Free Exploration

Players can freely navigate the open world, using the Grapnel Gun and cape to grapple and glide between buildings. The map features numerous fast-travel points and challenge rooms, enabling players to seamlessly switch to side missions or collection activities.

Combat and Stealth

Core gameplay is divided into two main styles: direct combat and stealth infiltration. Players can choose tactics based on the scenario—employing flashy Freeflow combos in open areas, or silently eliminating targets one by one within enemy encampments. The game offers a robust equipment upgrade system, allowing players to unlock new combat techniques and detective tools.

Boss Battle Design

The game features multiple meticulously designed boss battles, each requiring different strategies and skills. From two direct confrontations with Deathstroke to battles against villains like Electrocutioner and The Mad Hatter, each encounter presents a unique challenge.
