Game Introduction
Besiege is a war simulation and construction game developed by Spiderling Studios. Set against the backdrop of medieval siege warfare, players must build various siege engines to breach enemy defenses. The game utilizes a unique physics engine, allowing players to unleash their creativity and design a vast array of siege equipment. Initially released in Early Access in 2015, the game received years of updates and refinements before launching its full version in 2020.
Game Features
- Realistic Physics Engine: Employs an advanced physics simulation system where all constructed machinery adheres to real-world physical laws. Players must consider factors such as center of gravity, structural integrity, and power transmission.
- Comprehensive Building System: Offers a diverse range of parts and components, including wheels, hinges, springs, explosives, ropes, and more, enabling players to freely combine them to create unique siege engines.
- Varied Enemy Defenses: The game features various fortifications such as walls, towers, catapults, and archers, requiring players to devise corresponding strategies for different defenses.
- Open Sandbox Gameplay: Players can freely build and test in Sandbox Mode, realizing their siege ideas without any restrictions.
- Rich Challenge Levels: Includes multiple meticulously designed campaign levels, each with unique scenarios and objectives that test players' design skills and strategic thinking.
- Robust Mod Support: Supports player-created mods, with the community providing a wealth of custom levels and content, significantly extending the game's lifespan.
Gameplay
In the game, players assume the role of a medieval siege commander, using wisdom and creativity to build siege engines and conquer enemy strongholds. The core gameplay revolves around two themes: "Construction" and "Destruction."
During the construction phase, players select materials from a basic parts library to build frames, install power systems, and connect control mechanisms. Considerations during construction include physical balance, material strength, and power efficiency, as any design flaw may cause the machine to malfunction or disintegrate on the battlefield.
In the combat phase, players control their constructed siege engines to breach enemy defenses. The game provides an intuitive control interface, allowing players to command movements like forward and backward, fire weapons, and deploy mechanical functions. The physics engine faithfully simulates every collision, explosion, and structural failure, delivering a visually impactful experience.
The game offers multiple modes: Campaign Mode includes progressively challenging levels where players must complete specific objectives such as destroying flags or eliminating commanders; Sandbox Mode is entirely open-ended, allowing players to freely explore the joys of building and destruction; Challenge Mode tests players with optimized designs for specific goals.
