Game Introduction

Dark Souls: Remastered is a high-definition remaster of the classic ARPG Dark Souls, released in 2018 by FromSoftware and overseen by the original development team, with technical porting handled jointly by QLOC and Virtuos. The game fully preserves all content from the original 2011 Dark Souls, including the "Artorias of the Abyss" DLC, while implementing systematic upgrades in key areas such as visuals, frame rate, network architecture, and sound. The remaster supports 4K resolution and 60 fps (dynamic 1080p/60fps on consoles, up to 4K/60fps on PC), features remastered textures, lighting, and effects, and for the first time increases the maximum number of online players from 4 to 6. The introduction of dedicated servers significantly improves the stability of both PvP and cooperative play. The story still revolves around the "Curse of the Undead," with players assuming the role of an Undead imprisoned in the Northern Undead Asylum, embarking on a journey to link the fire, witnessing the rise and fall of Lordran, and confronting the end of the Age of Fire under Lord Gwyn.

Game Features

- Next-Gen Visual Upgrade: Native 4K textures, dynamic shadows, new depth of field and fog effects faithfully recreate the atmosphere of each area while enhancing detail sharpness; previously problematic framerate areas like Blighttown have been fully optimized.
- Complete Content Integration: Base game + "Artorias of the Abyss" DLC included from the start, with the addition of a bonfire fast-travel option to reduce backtracking time from the original.
- Revamped Network System: Dedicated servers + Password Matchmaking system allow for cooperative play with friends across level ranges; invasion and covenant mechanics are fully compatible between old and new versions.
- Unified Multi-Platform Experience: PC version abandons GFWL for Steam servers; Switch version supports 1080p docked/720p handheld modes and includes exclusive amiibo functionality to unlock additional items.
- Remastered Audio: All BGM remixed in 5.1 surround sound, significantly enhancing boss fight immersion; new ambient sound details added, such as wind in Lothric Castle and insect sounds in Darkroot Forest.
- Modern Convenience Features: Ability to switch button prompts (Xbox/PlayStation/Switch) at any time, option to disable automatic camera correction; UI adapted for 16:9 and ultrawide screen ratios.

Gameplay

  1. Core Loop

Explore, die, learn, explore again. Set in the seamlessly connected continent of Lordran, players use Bonfires as checkpoints and upgrade hubs to gradually unlock the path to the four Lordvessels. Upon death, players drop their Souls (experience + currency), which must be retrieved from the spot of death; dying again before retrieval results in permanent loss.

  1. Combat System
- Stamina Management: Attacking, blocking, rolling, and sprinting all consume the green stamina bar, forcing players to time their actions precisely.
- Parry & Backstab: Enemies can be parried for a critical riposte using a shield or bare hand; positioning behind an enemy allows for a high-damage backstab, offering high risk and high reward.
- Weapon Movesets: Each weapon category (Straight Swords, Greatswords, Rapiers, Polearms, Catalysts, etc.) features unique animation sets and frame data, and can be upgraded to +15 and infused (Fire, Magic, Lightning, etc.).
- Sorceries & Miracles: Spells like Soul Arrow, Great Fireball, and Lightning Spear consume Focus Points (FP), requiring the appropriate catalyst and learned scrolls/tomes.

  1. Online Interaction
- Cooperative Summoning: Use a White Sign Soapstone to leave a summon sign and help other players defeat area bosses to earn Sunlight Medals.
- Invasion Mechanics: Use a Red Eye Orb, join certain covenants, or have an area boss alive to enable invasions, allowing players to steal others' Souls and Humanity.
- Covenant PvP: Join covenants like the "Forest Hunter" or "Blade of the Darkmoon" to gain exclusive invasion items and reward weapons.

  1. Progression & Builds
- Free allocation into eight attributes: Vitality, Attunement, Endurance, Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith, Luck.
- Weapon Scaling & Soft Caps: Strength/Dexterity scaling weapons see diminishing returns after 40 points; Intelligence/Faith at 50 points unlock the most powerful spells.
- Armor Weight System: Equip Load <25% enables fast roll, 25–50% medium roll, >50% fat roll, directly affecting invincibility frame (i-frame) duration.

  1. Secrets & New Game+
- Hidden Areas: Return to the Undead Asylum, Ash Lake, and the Painted World, unlocked through complex jumps or key item chains.
- Covenant Ranks: For example, reaching Rank +3 in the "Princess's Guard" yields powerful miracles; "Chaos Servant" Rank +2 opens a shortcut...
