Worms: W.M.D.
Game Introduction
Worms: W.M.D. is the 14th mainline installment in the classic turn-based strategy game series "Worms," developed by Team17 and officially released in 2016. The game continues the series' signature cartoonish style and humorous elements, where players command a team of quirky worms in intense turn-based battles across procedurally generated battlefields. With the theme "Weapons of Mass Destruction," this title introduces a brand-new vehicle system, a crafting workshop, and the return of classic weapons, offering players the most in-depth combat experience in the series' history.
Key Features
New Vehicle System: For the first time in the series, the game introduces drivable vehicles, including tanks, attack helicopters, and armored cars. Players can pilot these vehicles to attack enemies. Vehicles possess their own health pools and special abilities, adding significant variety to combat strategies.
Crafting Workshop Mechanic: Players can collect resources scattered across the battlefield to craft unique weapons and equipment in the workshop. This system allows players to customize their weapon loadouts based on the battlefield situation and opponent tactics, greatly enhancing the game's replayability.
Return of Classic Weapons: The game features a collection of beloved classic weapons from previous installments, including the Bazooka, Banana Bomb, Kamikaze, and Holy Hand Grenade. Each weapon retains its unique attack method and humorous flair.
Enhanced Physics Engine: Utilizing a new physics simulation system, building destruction, environmental interactions, and weapon effects are more realistic and spectacular. Explosions produce impressive debris and fire effects, adding visual impact to the battles.
Multiplayer Modes: Supports both local and online multiplayer battles for up to 6 players simultaneously, offering a variety of game modes and map selections.
Gameplay
The game employs the classic turn-based combat system, where players take turns controlling their worm teams to battle opponents on procedurally generated maps. At the start of each turn, players can move their worms, select weapons, adjust angles and power, and then launch attacks. Game maps feature diverse terrain and destructible structures, requiring players to cleverly utilize cover, elevation differences, and environmental factors to formulate tactics.
During a turn, players spend action points to perform moves such as moving, jumping, using tools, or attacking. Different weapons consume varying amounts of action points, making resource allocation a key factor in victory. The game also introduces the "Hero Worm" concept, where certain special characters possess unique skills and attribute bonuses.
After battles, players can use earned resources in the workshop to unlock new weapons, upgrade equipment, or purchase new worm skins. The game offers a single-player campaign mode with multiple chapters and challenge levels, alongside extensive customization options allowing players to create unique battle rules and game modes.
